Every user in the Windows OS has a user folder associated with the account name which stores computer settings and data.A common problem with Windows machines is a corrupt user profile. So windows fails to recognize the user profile and folder that is linked to the user account. This can be caused by a hard drive error, joining/leaving a domain, file system issues and a change of username. What will happen in this case is that the next time the user logs-on, a fresh, empty profile will be created, named 'user.domain' or 'user.computer' instead of just 'user' -and from that point on, the new profile will be used instead of the correct one.
You can correct this problem manually, but you have to edit the registry and adjust permissions, tasks. All these are are painstaking and time-consuming, and are probably beyond the skill-level of the average user. ReProfiler offers an easy way to see which profile is associated with which user.It is a small, freeware and portable tool designed to reassign the data and settings of a Windows user account to another account.

When you are trying to change the “Display Properties" on Desktop sometimes you can view only "Themes" or few “tabs”. The other tabs like "Desktop", "Screen saver", "appearance" and "Settings are may missing. What could be the problem? The most likely cause of this is malware utilizing Group Policy Objects which enforces policies for system settings and/or user account(s) settings.
First you have to ensure there is no malware in your PC.Now you have to manually do the registry value change or by running registry fix from Kellys-Korner.Before making any changes to the Windows XP Registry, please backup your Windows XP Registry
Start> Run> type “Regedit“ without quotes and navigate these two locations:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
In the right-pane, delete the following values if found:
- NoDispAppearancePage
- NoThemesTab
- NoDispBackgroundPage
- NoDispScrSavPage
- NoDispSettingsPage
If none of the above Policies are set (in both of the locations above), ,Still the display properties tabs are still missing except for the Themes tab, try these commands from Start, Run dialog:
regsvr32 themeui
regsvr32 /i shell32
Restart Windows
Visit Kellys-Korner and apply the Registry Patch(line 285)

How many occasions you have to leave your computer, after a format, to download the Windows updates you had before it?Is there a solution?Try Autopatcher .It was one of the first software based services that allowed Windows users to download all released service packs and patches for their operating system and Microsoft Office. The service had been in troubles in the past thanks to an disagreement with Microsoft. They did come back from that and have changed the way AutoPatcher operates.
The main benefit of using AutoPatcher is that it will download all patches that have been released to the local computer system with the option to install them afterwards. This means that the patches can be installed while the computer is offline. It also means that the patches can be distributed to other computer systems to patch those as well.
Using AutoPatcher is really easy. After downloading you’ll have to extract the file’s contents in order to run AutoPatcher. It will display a list of all available release packages that can be downloaded to the local computer system. If you want to burn AutoPatcher on a CD (so it can run directly off the CD), just burn the contents of the folder in which you extracted the contents of the file you downloaded. It has now been updated to support Windows 7. The biggest benefit of AutoPatcher is that it is able to effortlessly install multiple updates in a batch without requiring repeated user intervention.
In addition to downloading updates for Windows 7, the program is able to download updates for Windows XP, 2003/2008 Server and Vista (32 and 64 bit), Microsoft Office XP, 2003 and 2007. NET Framework, DirectX, Java and Adobe Reader .

Windows7 actually boot more rapidly than other Windows versions. But the more programs you install, the slower your PC will start (It is true of all Windows editions). When Windows loads it's Startup file attempts to load every program in there at the same time. Therefore if you have quite a lot of programs starting when Windows starts, each program will try and grab CPU time so that it can load.If you have a lot of programs like Antivirus, Firewall, MS Office quick start bar, Mouse Manager, Yahoo Messenger etc leads high overwork on the hard disk and this saturates Ram and CPU .This slow down the boot drastically.
Startup Delayer is a great tool that tells the startup programs you select to sit tight, be patient, and run a little bit later—after some of the traffic has cleared.
For Example:
If you have your mail program and a special clock starting up, then you can make your mail start say 10 seconds after Windows has loaded, and then the special clock start 20 seconds after Windows Starts. The end result is that your computer boots much more quickly. The utility presents you with a list of all the programs that start when your system does. To set a delay for any of them, just drag the item to the white bar at the bottom of the window. You will see a line representing the application; drag it left or right to decrease or increase the delay. Startup Delayer is a freebie, and it’s one of the best ways to speed up a slow-booting computer. Even one that runs Windows 7

Windows stores your most recently visited website addresses in a special DNS cache on your hard drive. Your web browser accesses this cache of known addresses before it goes out to the Internet to send a URL request to an external DNS server. If the web address you’re looking for is in the cache, it gets used by your browser, saving valuable browsing time. You can speed up your browsing by increasing the size of this DNS cache. A bigger DNS cache enables addresses for more websites to be stored locally, which means fewer external DNS lookups. To increase the size of your computer’s DNS cache, you have to edit the Windows Registry, which is the large database where all the configuration settings for your system are stored. You edit the Registry using the Registry Editor utility. Here’s what you need to do:
1. Open the Start menu, enter regedit into the search box, and then press Enter.
2.When the Registry Editor, navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Dnscache\Parameters key.
3. Select Edit, New, DWORD (32-bit) Value.
4. Name this new item CacheHashTableBucketSize.
5. Right-click this new item and select Modify.
6. In the Value Data dialog box, change the value to 1.
7. Select Edit, New, DWORD (32-bit) Value.
8. Name this new item CacheHashTableSize.
9. Right-click this new item and select Modify.
10. In the Value Data dialog box, change the value to 180.
11. Select Edit, New, DWORD (32-bit) Value.
12. Name this new item MaxCacheEntryTtlLimit.
13. Right-click this new item and select Modify.
14. In the Value Data dialog box, change the value to ff00. Note, these are zeroes.
15. Select Edit, New, DWORD (32-bit) Value
16. Name this new item MaxSOACacheEntryTtlLimit.
17. Right-click this new item and select Modify.
18. In the Value Data dialog box, change the value to 12d.
For these changes to take effect, you need to close the Registry Editor and restart Windows. You should notice a slight speedup when next you browse the Web.
Whenever you install a new program, utility or application, Windows asks you to restart your system before allowing you to use it. The following tip will help you save time and imitate a system reboot by actually restarting the Windows Explorer shell and rereading the registry, which is what the program actually needs.
For Windows XP and Vista, this tip describes that the Windows Explorer can be killed using the command ‘tskill /f /im explorer.exe’ via the Command Prompt. Now restart it by
typing ‘explorer.exe’ right after that in the same Command Prompt window. This makes Windows read the registry all over again, which is a substitute for the usually required restart after any new software installations are done.
However, in Windows XP Home, thiscommand is slightly different — ‘tskill /a explorer’. The file name ending with ‘.exe’ does not need to be included. Windows Explorer restarts automatically in Windows XP Home without the need to type in the ‘explorer.exe’ command modifier.
Note: When you use the command in a batch file in Windows Vista, you must take care that you run the file with administrator rights. To do that, right-click on the batch file in Windows Explorer and select the context menu ‘Start as Administrator’.
You may face this situation many occasions .The print order is sent, suddenly the LAN connection dies. The job cannot be cancelled as usual through the print control. Now it is blocking all further printing attempts as well.
Using the usual dialog, you can actually delete those orders, which are still in progress. In order to get rid of the stuck print order and enable printing the queued orders, you must first manually stop the Printer Spooler service and then delete the file. For better control, start the commands in the command prompt. For that, open the command ‘Run’ in the ‘Start’ menu, then enter ‘cmd’ and then press ‘Enter’. In Vista, enter ‘cmd’ in the search box in the start menu, right click on this entry and select context command ‘Run as administrator’. Now use the following command
net stop spooler
and check, whether the print queue is gone. Then open Windows Explorer and navigate to the ‘C:\Windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS’ folder. There, delete all SPL files – they contain the affected print data. Now switch back to the still open command prompt. Enter the following here:
net start spooler
And the printing queue will start working smoothly again. After this, the command must be deleted, so that you can also use the printer again.
