Microsoft released its much awaited version of Windows Live Essentials(beta) yesterday.It includes many free programs like Messenger, Photo Gallery, Mail, Movie Maker, Writer, Family Safety, and Sync, plus Bing Bar and Messenger Companion. You also get Microsoft Office Outlook Connector Pack and Microsoft Silverlight.It also connects online services from Microsoft and other providers, including social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace, and Linkedin; popular blogging tools like Spaces, WordPress, and Blogger; online storage and photo/video sharing sites including SkyDrive, Flickr, YouTube, and SmugMug; email sites such as Hotmail, Gmail, and Yahoo Mail.
Microsoft has introduced a powerful new feature-Photo Fuse- into Windows Live Photo Gallery which allows you to take parts of one Photo and merge it into another.It has also improved facial recognition.You can also tag people in your photos .With Movie Maker, you can make movies from your videos and photos. AutoMovie adds themes, transitions, effects, titles, and more .You can manage multiple e‑mail accounts—Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo! Mail* and more—in Windows Live Mail.

WINDOWS 7 COMES with a free e-mail program called Windows Live Mail that can import mail from earlier Microsoft programs. If you ran an Upgrade install from Vista, install Windows Live Mail. Your old messages will appear in the ‘Storage folders’ section. If you ran a Custom (advanced) upgrade from XP or Vista, follow these directions:
1. Download and install Windows Live Mail
2. Set Windows to show hidden files: Launch Windows Explorer,and select Organize¨Folder and search options. Click the View tab.Choose Show hidden files, folders, and drives, and click OK.
3. Launch Live Mail, and run the ‘Add an E-mail Account’ wizard.
4. Press the <Alt> key to bring up the program’s menus; select File¨Import¨Messages.
5. Upgrading from Vista? Select Windows Mail in the Import wizard, and follow the prompts. Your mail is likely in the folder C:\Windows.old\Users\yourlog-on\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsMail\LocalFolders,where your log-on is your Windows username.
Upgrading from XP? Select Microsoft Outlook Express 6 in the Import wizard, and follow the prompts. Your mail is likely in the folder
C:\DocumentsandSettings\yourlog-on\LocalSettings\ApplicationData\Identities\a long number\Microsoft\Outlook Express, where your log-on is your Windows username, and a long number is just what it sounds like.
6. To keep hidden files hidden, repeat step 2; but this time, select Do not show hidden files, folders, and drives.You’ll find your old e-mail messages collected in the ‘Storage folders’ section, under Imported Folder\Local Folders.
Microsoft has released Windows Live Essentials beta which is an updated version of Windows Live Installer.This includes Messenger, Mail, Photo Gallery, Movie Maker, Writer, Toolbar, and Family Safety.

You don’t have to install everything listed here, but many of the applications are very well done, and very useful to have.One more great news for Windows Live Messenger user is, Windows Live essentials includes latest Windows Live Messenger 9 Build 14.0.8050.1202.
Windows Live Mail will block the attachment when you receive mail with chm/.exe extension.To receive the attachment you can configure Live Mail
1. Open Windows Live Mail.
2. Menu> Tools and select Safety Options>Security tab
3. Uncheck the Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus checkbox.
4. Click the OK button.
